The word on the street was that there is an amazing new vegan restaurant that recently opened in Bondi… and can we just say, it lives up to the hype. Peppe’s Bondi is a cosy little Italian restaurant/bar providing a stylishly rustic spot for a relaxed vegan dinner and drinks.
With exposed brick, lots of timber and striking green accents, the dim lighting makes you feel invited and at home. Peppe’s Bondi oozes the Bondi cool factor at every turn.
With owners Joe Pagliaro and Grace Watson (of Waterloo’s vegan fine dinning restaurant Paperbark) partnering with Joel Bennetts, formally from Three Blue Ducks and Mr Wong’s, the curated menu provides quality over quantity.
The menu has four main sections; To Share, Salads, Pasta’s and Desserts.
We shared the the eggplant parmigiana and arancini balls to start with and absolutely loved them. Both were packed with flavour and had fantastic crunchy and soft textures. For our main, we opted for the pesto potato gnocchi and chilli spaghetti, with the cos & herb salad on the side. All of these dishes were well balanced, flavoursome, unique and the produce all tasted very fresh. Surprisingly, we didn’t feel too full after sharing all of the above, which was just an added bonus of vegan dining we figured.
After relaxing and enjoying the rest of our delicious vegan Pinot Noir, we couldn’t leave without trying the Tirumasu. This was incredible and we’re still not entirely sure how something that tasted that good was completely vegan, but we’re definitely not complaining.
The curated wine menu features some fantastic local wines, including Olaf Knight (a brother brand to the esteemed De Salis Wines), that we think offers a great way to start your evening with their bubbles, followed by either a preservative free red or white.
In summary and as if being vegan wasn’t cool enough already, now the trendy Peppe’s Bondi is the icing on the vegan cake. Be sure to check it out!
